Additional Information:
A grade of “C” or better is required in all English courses for those majoring in English. A grade of “C” or better in ENGL 1002 is required for enrollment in English courses that are 2000 level and above. A grade of “C” or better is required to earn non-core credit toward major, minor, or elective requirements for those majoring in English. A student whose ACT/SAT score places them in developmental English or Math must successfully complete the course or courses within the first three semesters of enrollment at the University of Louisiana at Monroe to be eligible to maintain continued enrollment. A maximum of three attempts (including drop “W” attempts) will be allowed for the required course. Students who fail to meet this requirement during this time limit must successfully complete the developmental course at another university or community college before being eligible to return to ULM. Accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s Degree in English
For high-achieving undergraduate students to have the opportunity to complete both a bachelor’s and master’s degree within a five-year time period instead of the normal six, the English Program allows high-performing students to participate in its Accelerated Bachelor’s-to-Master’s (ABM) program. Those students who meet the criteria below have the opportunity to enroll in up to twelve hours of select graduate coursework during their senior year, which will apply to both their B.A. and M.A. degrees. Eligible applicants must: - Be within 30 hours of completing their bachelor’s degree
- Have a minimum G.P.A. of 3.2 on all undergraduate coursework and a minimum 3.0 G.P.A. in their English coursework.
- Be provisionally admitted to the Graduate School and English M.A. program
ABM students are eligible to enroll in the following graduate courses: - ENGL 5000 Proseminar
- Any course with a number of 5000 or above for which the student has not already taken the 4000-level counterpart
Once admitted to the ABM program, students must maintain a minimum 3.0 G.P.A. while completing their bachelor’s degrees. Those who fail to meet this requirement will be denied continuance in the program at the end of the semester in which they fail to meet the minimum G.P.A. requirement. Graduate classes taken prior to a denial of continuance will count toward undergraduate coursework but will not fulfill graduate requirements. Likewise, those denied continuance will be ineligible to take additional graduate courses until after they have completed their bachelor’s degrees and been fully readmitted to the Graduate School. |
