HLST 2003 - Introduction to Healthcare Delivery 3 cr.
This introductory course provides students with an overview of the healthcare delivery system, including the roles of healthcare professionals and healthcare organizations. Using didactic and practical techniques, the students will explore issues regarding healthcare insurance, people who are uninsured and underinsured, managed care, and changes in the healthcare marketplace. Also discussed are the roles of health workers, disease prevention, complementary and alternative medicine, health policy and governmental issues and healthcare ethics. The course will integrate IPE activities related to the essence of teamwork in healthcare, application of essential employability skills, and exploration of the roles and responsibilities of all allied health professions.
