MUSC 4064 - The Baroque Era

3 cr.

Upper level course designed for graduate students and advanced undergraduates. Topics include discussion of major composers, styles, and genres from the late 16th century until the middle of the 18th century. Composers and their works are situated within a larger cultural and historical context. Emphasis is placed on aural identification and written analysis of representative works. A research paper and accompanying assignments form a significant portion of the course grade. Students will be introduced to electronic resources for music research.

Prerequisite(s): MUSC 4092  or approval of the head of Division of Music.
