At the time of admission, provide a writing sample such as a book review, honors’ thesis or research paper no longer than 10 pages, double-spaced excluding bibliography to the History Graduate Coordinator.
Undergraduate requirements are 18 semester hours of social sciences and/or humanities, with at least half of those being from history

Program Admission
Regular Admission Applicants must have earned a baccalaureate degree from a college or university accredited and recognized at the institutional level by the US Department of Education (USDOE) with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or a 3.0 GPA on the last 60 hours of attempted coursework to be regularly admitted. or Applicants who have earned any graduate or terminal degree from a from a college or university accredited and recognized at the institutional level by the US Department of Education (USDOE) will qualify for regular admission to a master’s program provided they meet all other eligibility requirements. Conditional Admission Applicants must have earned a baccalaureate degree from a college or university accredited and recognized at the institutional level by the US Department of Education (USDOE) with a minimum overall GPA of 2.50 on a 4.0 scale or a 2.50 GPA on the last 60 hours of attempted coursework to be conditionally admitted. or minimum formula score of GPA (either cumulative or last 60 hours) x GRE (Q+V) = 707.50 Applicants seeking admission to this program must also currently hold a bachelor’s degree with a minimum 18 semester hours of Social Sciences and/or Humanities, with at least half of those being from History. Applicants who fail to meet the above standards may be admitted on conditional status as recommended by the Graduate History Admission and Curriculum Committee in concert with the Dean of the Graduate School.
Accelerated Bachelor’s-to-Master’s in History
History allows high-performing students to participate in its accelerated bachelor’s-to-master’s (ABM) program. Those participating in the program will be allowed to enroll in up to twelve hours of select graduate coursework during their senior year, which will apply to both their BA and MA degrees. Eligible applicants must: - be within 30 hours of completing their bachelor’s degree
- have a minimum GPA of 3.2 on all undergraduate coursework and a minimum 3.5 GPA in their History courses.
- be provisionally admitted to the Graduate School and History MA program
ABM students are eligible to enroll in the following graduate courses: Once admitted to the ABM program, students must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA while completing their bachelor’s degrees. Those who fail to meet this requirement will be denied continuance in the program at the end of the semester in which they fail to meet the minimum GPA requirement. Graduate classes taken prior to a denial of continuance will count toward undergraduate coursework but will not fulfill graduate requirements. Likewise, those denied continuance will be ineligible to take additional graduate courses until after they have completed their bachelor’s degrees and been fully readmitted to the Graduate School.
