Program Description


This theoretically oriented Ph.D. is uniquely designed for the clinician, counselor, coach, clergy, healer, educator, scholar, artist, and professional who desires deeper study of the contexts that advance the practices necessary for change.  The program’s faculty comprises a learned group of scholars, educators, and seasoned practitioners.  Coursework spans across academic disciplines and fields of practice and aims to study and contribute to the ways creativity helps awaken systemic processes of change.  The program combines rigor with creativity and is subjected to universally accepted standards of academic rigor and measurement.

Program Admissions


Admission to the Marriage & Family Therapy (MFT) program is at the discretion of the MFT Program Admissions Committee; In addition to the university requirements for admission to the Graduate School at ULM, applicants for admission to the Ph.D. in MFT with a concentration in Systemic Studies will meet the following criteria:

Completed a masters degree from a college or university accredited and recognized at the institutional level by the US Department of Education (USDOE),

AND

A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.5 (based on a 4.0 scale)

and will provide:

  • resume
  • Three letters of recommendation from professional colleagues who are familiar with his/her character, work, and therapy skills (where applicable)
  • A scholarly writing sample of 8-10 pages. Previous work such as an academic paper or report may be submitted
  • A professional goal statement: 1-3 page typed, double-spaced statement of professional goals and how the Ph.D. will lead to the fulfillment of the goals
  • A TOEFL score of 61 or above (if applicable)
