Program Admission

Applicants must have earned a baccalaureate degree from a college or university accredited and recognized at the institutional level by the US Department of Education (USDOE) with a minimum overall GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale or a 2.75 GPA on the last 60 hours of attempted coursework to be regularly admitted.

Applicants must have earned a baccalaureate degree from a college or university accredited and recognized at the institutional level by the US Department of Education (USDOE) with a minimum overall GPA of 2.50 on a 4.0 scale or a 2.50 GPA on the last 60 hours of attempted coursework to be conditionally admitted.

In addition to the university requirements for admission, all applicants must submit passing scores on the state-designated PRAXIS II content exam.

Program Requirements

  39 semester hours to include:

• CURR 5003 - Instructional Strategies for Middle and Secondary Schools
• CURR 5004 - Classroom Organization and Behavior Management for Diverse Learners
• CURR 5047 - Educational Techniques for Diverse Learners in Inclusive Classrooms
• CURR 5056 - Individualizing Instruction in Secondary Schools
• CURR 5066 - Internship in Secondary Education Inclusive Grades 6-12 , 6 semester hours of internship   (to successfully complete CURR 5066, candidates must meet all other eligibility requirements for initial teacher licensure in Louisiana for both General and Special Education, which include meeting the Program Admission requirements above, satisfactory performance in specified courses, and passing scores on state-designated General and Special Education PRAXIS II tests)
