Elementary Education Grades 1-5 (Alternative Certification), M.A.T. (131202)

Program Admission

Applicants with an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher will qualify for regular admission status.
Applicants with an undergraduate GPA of 2.5 - 2.74 will qualify for conditional admission status.

In addition to the university requirements for admission, all applicants must meet the following:

1. Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university;
2. Passing scores on state-designated PRAXIS II content exam.

Program Requirements

   36 semester hours to include:

• CURR 5014 - Classroom, Behavior, and Instructional Management K-12
• CURR 5046 - Educational Techniques for Diverse Learners in Inclusive Classrooms
• CURR 5063 - Internship in Elementary Education , 6 semester hours of internship   (to successfully complete CURR 5063, candidates must meet all other eligibility requirements for initial teacher licensure in Louisiana, which include meeting the Program Admission requirements above, satisfactory performance in courses, and passing scores on state-designated PRAXIS II tests)

• ELED 5010 - Advanced Studies in Science and Math
• ELED 5011 - Advanced Studies in Elementary Language Arts and Social Studies
• EDFN 5024 - Utilization of Instructional Technologies
• PSYC 5003 - Advanced Child Psychology
• READ 5002 - Literacy Instruction in the Elementary Grades
• READ 5021 - Reading Instruction & Intervention for Dyslexia
• READ 5030 - Reading and Literacy Across the Content Areas
