The University of Louisiana-Monroe (ULM) offers the only graduate program in Gerontology in Louisiana. Along with a Master’s degree, the university also offers a Graduate Certificate in Senior Healthcare Management.
There are several advantages to completing the Senior Healthcare Management certificate program:
- The program provides advanced skills and knowledge in Geriatric Services delivery, administration, and management.
- The program provides knowledge and skills critical for resource management and geriatric care coordination.
- The program accepts all bachelor’s degrees irrespective of the discipline as long as the admission criteria are met.
- The program may be completed in as little as four semesters including summer sessions.
The primary purpose of this certificate program is to create a senior healthcare workforce with advanced skills and training that would be able to address the healthcare needs of a rapidly increasing older population. The graduate certificate in Senior Healthcare Management will appeal to:
- Individuals working in the long-term care industry
- Individuals working in corporate and public healthcare sectors.
- Individuals working in clinical and small business settings
- Individuals whose career goals focus on launching a business in geriatric care management and case management
- Individuals seeking managerial and administrative careers in the healthcare industry
- Individuals working in community-based non-profit organizations that provide services to older adults
- Individuals who may not want to enroll in a two-year Master’s Program but would like to seek graduate education in geriatric management and administration

Program Admission
Admission Requirements
Regular Status:
Applicants must meet one of the following minimum requirements to be regularly admitted:
Any graduate, terminal, or professional degree from a regionally accredited university
OR
a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75 (based on a 4.0 scale) from a regionally accredited university
OR
a GPA of 2.75 in the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework from a regionally accredited university
Conditional Status:
Applicants must meet one of the following minimum requirements to be conditionally admitted:
Minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.5 (based on a 4.0 scale) from a regionally accredited university
OR
a GPA of 2.5 in the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework from a regionally accredited university
OR
Minimum formula score of 622.6 (2.2 GPA x 283 GRE)
OR
With a GPA of 2.2 or higher, some candidates with 5 years of employment in a relevant field of study may qualify for a waiver of test scores.
Curriculum
The Senior Healthcare Management Certificate is a 15-hour fully online certificate that consists of Gerontology, Business, and Health Economics coursework. Following are the courses that need to be completed for the certificate program:
