Program Admission


 

In addition to the university requirements for admission to the Graduate School, all applicants for regular admission to the Master of Arts in History degree program must meet the following criteria:

A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 from a regionally accredited university.


Applicants who fail to meet the above standards may be admitted on conditional status as recommended by the Graduate History Admission and Curriculum Committee in concert with the Dean of the Graduate School.

Program Requirements


At the time of admission, provide a writing sample such as a book review, honors’ thesis or research paper no longer than 10 pages, double-spaced excluding bibliography to the History Graduate Coordinator. 


Undergraduate requirements are 18 semester hours of social sciences and/or humanities, with at least half of those being from history

Basic core requirement for the Master of Arts in History is
HIST 5030 Research Methods  

Additional requirements include:
six semester hours of HIST 5099 Thesis  
and 21 semester hours of history electives and for a total of 30 semester hours.

Non Thesis and ULM Online students are required to take HIST 5030 Research Methods  
and 27 semester hours of history electives for a total of 30 semester hours.

In total, a minimum of 50 percent of the graduate program of study must be taken in History courses restricted to graduate students only (5000 level or above).

Graduate Courses


Note: To receive graduate credit for a 4000-level course designated “For Undergraduate and Graduates,” a student must be in graduate admission status at the time credit is earned in the course. Credit earned in undergraduate admission status cannot be changed to graduate credit.
