Program Admission


Applicants with an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher (or a GPA of 3.0 or higher on the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework) will qualify for regular admission status.
Applicants with an undergraduate GPA of 2.5 - 2.74 (or a GPA of 2.75 - 2.9 on the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework) will qualify for conditional admission status.

In addition to the university requirements for admission, all applicants must meeting the following:

  1. Eligibility requirements for admission to Teacher Education (minimum of 2.5 grade-point average on undergraduate work and passing scores on PRAXIS I: Reading, Writing, Math) or a composite of 22 on the ACT; and
  2. Content knowledge requirements for Louisiana which include:
    1. Possess a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university either with a major in a certifiable teaching area or with coursework equivalent to a primary focus area (30 hours) and
    2. Present passing scores on state-designated PRAXIS II content test in teaching area which includes:
      English Language Arts: Content and Analysis (5039)
      Spanish: World Language (5195)
      Mathematics: Content Knowledge (5161)
      Social Studies: Content and Interpretation (5086)
      Biology: Content Knowledge (5235)
      Chemistry: Content Knowledge (5245)
      General Science: Content Knowledge (5435)
      Physics: Content Knowledge (5265)

To successfully complete CURR 5064  , candidates must meet all other eligibility requirements for initial teacher licensure in Louisiana, which include meeting Program Admission requirements above, satisfactory performance in specified courses, and passing scores on state-designated PRAXIS II tests.

Graduate Courses


Note: To receive graduate credit for a 4000-level course designated “For Undergraduate and Graduates,” a student must be in graduate admission status at the time credit is earned in the course. Credit earned in undergraduate admission status cannot be changed to graduate credit.
