Program Admission
Applicants with an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher (or a GPA of 3.0 or higher on the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework) will qualify for regular admission status.
Applicants with an undergraduate GPA of 2.5 - 2.74 (or a GPA of 2.75 - 2.9 on the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework) will qualify for conditional admission status.
In addition to the university requirements for admission, all applicants must meeting the following:
- Eligibility requirements for admission to Teacher Education (minimum of 2.5 grade-point average on undergraduate work and passing scores on PRAXIS I: Reading, Writing, Math) or a composite of 22 on the ACT; and
- Content knowledge requirements for Louisiana which include:
- Possess a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university either with a major in a certifiable teaching area or with coursework equivalent to a primary focus area (30 hours) and
- Present passing scores on state-designated PRAXIS II content test in teaching area which includes:
English Language Arts: Content and Analysis (5039)
Spanish: World Language (5195)
Mathematics: Content Knowledge (5161)
Social Studies: Content and Interpretation (5086)
Biology: Content Knowledge (5235)
Chemistry: Content Knowledge (5245)
General Science: Content Knowledge (5435)
Physics: Content Knowledge (5265)
Program Requirements
36 semester hours to include: Total Hours 36
To successfully complete CURR 5064, candidates must meet all other eligibility requirements for initial teacher licensure in Louisiana, which include meeting Program Admission requirements above, satisfactory performance in specified courses, and passing scores on state-designated PRAXIS II tests. Graduate Courses
Note: To receive graduate credit for a 4000-level course designated “For Undergraduate and Graduates,” a student must be in graduate admission status at the time credit is earned in the course. Credit earned in undergraduate admission status cannot be changed to graduate credit.
