History (Online), M.A.

Program Admission


In addition to the university requirements for admission to the Graduate School, all applicants for regular admission to the online Master of Arts in History degree program (offered in a non-thesis track only) must meet the following criteria:

  1. A minimum combined score of 900 on the Graduate Record Examination General Test (Verbal plus Quantitative); and
  2. A minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 2.50 (based on a 4.0 scale); and
  3. A minimum formula score of 1875, calculated by multiplying cumulative undergraduate grade point average by GRE score (verbal plus quantitative).

Applicants who fail to meet the above standards may be admitted on conditional status as recommended by the Graduate History Admission and Curriculum Committee in concert with the Dean of the Graduate School.

Program Requirements


Undergraduate requirements include a minimum 18 semester hours of social sciences and 18 semester hours of history.

Basic core requirement for the online M.A. in History (non-thesis) is HIST 5030 . Additional requirements include 27 semester hours of history electives. In total, a minimum of 50 percent of the graduate program of study must be taken in history courses restricted to graduate students only (5000 level or above).

Graduate Courses


Note: To receive graduate credit for a course designated ‘For Undergraduate and Graduates,’ a student must be in graduate admission status at the time credit is earned in the course. Credit earned in undergraduate admission status cannot be changed to graduate credit.
