AVIATION

The Aviation curriculum provides a knowledge base and training for students pursuing careers in various phases of Aviation.
To progress satisfactorily, a student must complete all required developmental courses, plus AVIA 1010 and AVIA 1011 , with a grade of “C” or better, before enrolling in 3000- or 4000-level courses. Applied electives are program-guided electives that will benefit a student’s expected career path. Advisor approval of courses to be used for applied electives is needed.
Flight School Security
To comply with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations, all non-U.S. citizens or other individuals designated by the TSA desiring to receive flight or simulator instruction must register and be approved by the TSA before instruction can begin.
Unmanned Aircraft Systems Concentration
The Unmanned Aircraft Systems Concentration is offered to those students whose career objectives are aimed at the emerging unmanned aircraft systems industry. The program provides the breadth and depth of instruction needed to ensure graduates are prepared to work as pilots/operators and/or developmental team members of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) while fully understanding the operational and safety environments of the National Airspace System.
As some of the technologies involved with UAS fall under International Traffic in Arms Regulations, students wishing to pursue this degree program must be able to prove United States citizenship prior to enrolling in the following courses: AVIA 2080 , AVIA 3080 , AVIA 4080 , and AVIA 4081 . There are no exceptions to this policy.
NOTE: The UAS is an emerging industry and under strict control of the FAA. Currently the only agencies allowed to operate UAS are government, state/local government, and qualifying universities.
