An application of kinematics, dynamics, and thermodynamics in diagnosing synoptic-scale weather systems. Quasi-geostrophic theory; cyclogenesis and frontogenesis; jet dynamics, linear perturbation theory; atmospheric waves ; baroclinic instability.

Prerequisite(s): A grade of “C” or better in ATMS 3003 and ATMS 3005
