COUN 5001 - Introduction to Professional Counseling
(3 Cr.) This course provides an introduction to the counseling profession. Principles, purposes, historic events, current concerns, societallegal-ethical issues are covered. This course serves as an orientation to the profession. (Formerly Counseling: Principles and Administration.)
(3 Cr.) A survey of the major counseling theories, with emphasis on application of the theories in counseling sessions and an integration of theories into a unified counseling strategy which each student will develop based on that student’s counseling strengths.

Legal, philosophical, and cultural issues are presented. Application of the Functional Behavioral Assesments (FBAs) are incorporated utilizing Positive Behavioral Supports (PBSs) to develop a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) as supported through field based experiences.

(3 Cr.) Provides an introduction to data analysis and statistical inference where students learn to describe data quantitatively and graphically, compute statistical estimates and hypothesis tests, and use the computer in text editing, data management, and statistical processing of research data.

CURR 7008 - Communication and Collaboration in Problem Solving
(3 Cr.) Presents methods and styles of communication, which facilitiates positive interpersonal communication and introduces techniques and methods to conflict resolution for faculty, students, and administrators.

CURR 7011 - Program Evaluation Theory and Practice
(3 Cr.) Investigates the current theory and practice of programs, personel, data collection and analysis, reporting of the evaluation, and analysis of current national, state, and local program evaluations and their findings. Participants conduct and model evaluation strategies through field project reports.
CURR 7012 - Assessment for Program and Instructional Decision Making
(3 Cr.) This course is designed to explore the inter-related and multifarious dimensions and uses of assessment in education and instructional decision-making. Includes application of knowledge about available sources of data and assessment techniques to the real-world educational problems.
(3 Cr.) An analysis of the professional environment with emphasis on procedural strategies for professional development as evidenced by teaching, service, and research. Two complementary facets include organizational behavior in educational environments and the development and maintenance of effective professional development programs.
CURR 7014 - Decision Making for School Improvement
(3 Cr.) This core course presents decision making and problem solving situations in educational settings with particular emphasis on school improvement and accountability. Students present case studies depicting decision making models for analyzing and developing strategies for reaching solutions.
(3-9 Cr.) This course is an independent application of reserach, design, and methods that leads to the completion of an original research study under the guidance of the student’s doctoral committee. A grade of Credit/No Credit is earned. Maximum of 9 hours earned.
(1-15 Cr.) Candidates in the program examine a problem of practice (POP) within their discipline. The POP is an identified area of concern gleaned from an examination of the context of said discipline.
