Elementary Education Grades 1-5 (Alternative Certification), M.A.T. (131202)

Program Admission

Applicants with an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher will qualify for regular admission status.
Applicants with an undergraduate GPA of 2.5 - 2.74 will qualify for conditional admission status.

In addition to the university requirements for admission, all applicants must meet the following:

1. Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university;
    
2. Passing scores on PRAXIS I (Core Academic Skills for Educators),
   OR
   minimum composite ACT score of 22,
   OR
   minimum SAT combined verbal/critical reading and math score of 1030,
   OR
   previous graduate degree;
    
3. Passing scores on state-designated PRAXIS II content exam.

• 6 semester hours of internship, CURR 5063 - Internship in Elementary Education  

• CURR 5073 - Assessment and Accountability
• ELED 5010 - Advanced Studies in Science and Math
• ELED 5011 - Advanced Studies in Elementary Language Arts and Social Studies
• EDFN 5024 - Utilization of Instructional Technologies
• EDFN 5081 - Research
• PSYC 5003 - Advanced Child Psychology
• READ 5002 - Balanced Reading Instruction
• READ 5025 - Diagnosis and Correction of Reading Difficulties
• READ 5030 - Reading and Literacy Across the Content Areas

To successfully complete CURR 5063  , candidates must meet all other eligibility requirements for initial teacher licensure in Louisiana, which include meeting Program Admission requirements above, satisfactory performance in specified courses, and passing scores on state-designated PRAXIS II tests.

Graduate Courses

Note: To receive graduate credit for a 4000-level course designated “For Undergraduate and Graduates,” a student must be in graduate admission status at the time credit is earned in the course. Credit earned in undergraduate admission status cannot be changed to graduate credit.
