Program Admission
In addition to the university requirements for admission, all applicants must meet the following criteria:
Regular Admission
- a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75 and above (based on a 4.0 scale), from a regionally accredited university
OR
- 3.0 on last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework from a regionally accredited university
Conditional Admission
- a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.50 and above (based on a 4.0 scale), from a regionally accredited university
OR
- 2.75 on last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework from a regionally accredited university
OR
- Minimum formula score of 622.6 (2.2 GPA x 283 GRE)
Applicants for Alternative Certification degrees must meet the additional admission requirements specified for those programs.
Program Requirements
Applicants to all concentrations, except English as a Second Language (ESL), must hold a valid teacher’s certificate in a field complimentary to the graduate concentration issued by the Louisiana State Department of Education or its equivalent. A total of 36 semester hours must be earned for the degree regardless of concentration chosen. Successful candidates also earn their endorsement for Teacher Leader.
The Educational Diagnostics Concentration also requires a minimum of one academic year of teaching experience as a Special Education teacher, Mild/Moderate certification or 2 areas of special education certification (intellectual disabilities, specific learning disabilities, behavior disorder, or emotional disturbed), Graduate level Diagnostic Reading (3 credit hours), Graduate level Foundations of Reading (3 credit hours), Graduate level Behavior Intervention (3 credit hours).
Graduate Courses
Note: To receive graduate credit for a 4000-level course designated “For Undergraduate and Graduates,” a student must be in graduate admission status at the time credit is earned in the course. Credit earned in undergraduate admission status cannot be changed to graduate credit.
