PhD in Pharmacology Curriculum
Revised Curriculum
Each student’s specific degree plan is organized to meet their individual needs, as determined by the student, faculty advisor and dissertation advisory committee. A minimum of 30 semester hours of structured coursework, excluding seminars, dissertation research, and directed study. Of the minimum 30 hours, 80 percent must be in 5000 or higher-level courses. New courses can then be developed at a later time if needed. Core courses listed as in the Graduate Catalog are required for the completion of a Ph.D. in Pharmacology, whereas elective courses can be selected from the list of “Suggested Elective Courses” or may include additional graduate courses as suggested and approved by the student’s dissertation committee and the Graduate School. In general, the curriculum sequence for the Ph.D. Program in Pharmacology is described below.

Effective for Applicants beginning Spring 2023.
Student admission for Full status to the doctoral program is based upon the following criteria:
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited university.
- The applicant must have a minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale) from a regionally accredited university.
- The applicant must have a minimum cumulative graduate grade point average of at least 3.25 (on a 4.0 scale) from a regionally accredited university.
- The applicant must have completed the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) with a minimum score of 292 (Verbal and Quantitative); or the Miller’s Analogy Test (MAT) with a minimum score of 397; or an approved writing sample scored by program faculty, meeting the scholarly writing criteria, as determined by the graduate program faculty.
